It has always happened: if Mom and I had to go more than a county away, we would go awry at some point, Always managed to get to our destination, but…. later than planned and somewhat stressed out. That hasn’t changed much with the GPS. We still managed to “End up on the road less traveled”. In BOTH directions! Since the weather was beautiful, I am not all that stressed out about it. The GPS did manage to get us from Austerlitz , NY to Sharon, Ct.
The last time I was at St. Bridget’s Church was 29 years ago, when Trevor was baptized. Today, we went to say good-bye to his brother Ryan, who was Mom’s godson. He is right next to his brother Adam, which is as it should be. (Adam was still-born 32 years ago). Ryan had his demons…. who doesn’t? He didn’t let people see the struggle. And he lost the fight, on this plane. Now his soul can rest, and rejuvenate. And I know he’s free, because while we were all out at the graveside part of the service, a hawk flew right over our heads. I swear, I could have reached up and touched it as it passed over me!
I told Kevin and Robert we need to stop getting together only for funerals. Okay, that isn’t quite the case, since we were together for Gerard and Nancy’s wedding; but when I look back at all the time we spent together as kids… it just seems sad we don’t see each other more often now. I know, it’s life: we grew up, had our own kids… some have grandchildren now. But… I miss my cousins.
Fly as free as your hawk, Ryan. We will love you forever.
