Misadventures in Baking…and other things

I signed up for the Cookie Swap at work. I’ve been baking cookies for 45 years, so …no problem, right?

Kidling and I made up three batters last night (MishMash, Sugar Cookies, and Shortbreads) and baked the MishMash. That dough doesn’t need to be refrigerated, rolled, or cut in fancy shapes.

It’s a good thing we got those done, at least, because there may not be anything else.  We found ONE of my Christmas cookie cutters….ONE. The shortbread dough seems too dry to me…it crumbled in my hands instead of rolling out properly. And I have lost all interest and/or enthusiasm for the project completely.

And this is after getting up to take Mom to church, only to have the Pathfinder refuse to start again. (I took Nick’s car instead.) I was half-way home before I remembered Mom asked me to pick her up a newspaper….had to back-track a bit to get to Cumbies. Got home, went back to bed for about an hour…and woke up with a bloody nose. I have two dollars between me and payday (Thursday), no smokes, no soda, and have to figure out what to take for lunch Tuesday and Wednesday. We’re going to see “The Last Jedi” this afternoon, and I honestly don’t even want to leave the house again.

We will see what happens. The Kidling is now dealing with the dough. The oven is heating.
