Maybe it’s because I mostly watch Lifetime around the holidays, but I missed this one before.   Child Genius is going into its second season here in the States, and is based on a UK format.  http://www.mylifetime.com/shows/child-genius

What the HELL? Aren’t we expecting too much from our kids these days as it is? A freaking GAME SHOW style basically forcing young kids to compete in academia above the general level of their ages.

I get the fact some kids are really intelligent. But this, to me, is no different from all the pageants, and dance competitions, and pushy sports parents.

When did childhood become about fulfilling your parents’ missed chances? Accelerated learning that alienates you from your own age group? Unrealistic expectations about weight, looks, book learning?

For the love of all that’s holy, and good, and SANE… LET CHILDREN BE CHILDREN! There are already too many pieces of a dark and dreary reality intruding into their young worlds. Why make it harder on them, or ourselves, or our family relationships?
