Tugboat Round Up

Every year at this time, Erie Canal Lock 2 hosts the Tugboat Round-Up It can be cheap fun, since there is no entry fee. And this morning was a great day to be by or on the water. As usual, the Maternal Unit went along with the Kidling and me for a few hours of sun, boats, venders and exercise. (Believe me…walking up and down along the lock is a work-out if you don’t get a lot of exercise usually!)

Meriah and her Grammie all wood tug 100_1521 Sailboat 'Silent Dream' Meriah aka Lady Dusty harbor seal-channel cat mixI think someone must have quite the imagination and too much time on their hands. This “thing” was displayed on the top deck of a private craft (I think it was the Betty June). It looks like a cross between a harbor seal and a channel cat. Very well put together, and almost scary.

I did notice the water level this year was about 3 to 5 feet lower than last year. How can I be so sure? Where the decks of certain larger ships hit the wall. Last year, we had to step UP to get aboard the barge. This year, it was a foot down to the deck.

The Onrush is an on-going project. Donate $20, and they fire the cannon. I think in the 2 hours we were there, they fired that cannon 4 times. Awesome.
