Food Shows, Celeb contestants and Charities

I love watching some of the food shows out these days. Watching the creation of cakes straight out of fantasy, cupcakes to dream of, meals that work for family groups or larger… sometimes watching the competitions can be a riot, and sometimes it can be painful.

Take season 2 of Rachel Vrs Guy Celebrity Cook Off. Season 1 was awesome, and there were times I was so impressed by the celebs doing the cooking, it didn’t matter who won…although, I will admit, I was cheering for Lou Diamond Phillips from the start. Season 2 didn’t get off to that great of a start. Gilbert Gottfried is a wonderfully funny man, who had an absolutely wonderful charity he’d chosen to support. (ANY group to benefit our vets, especially our wounded vets, gets my vote!) But PBJ? Really? This was the wrong time for Mr. Gottfried to get hit by stage fright of any sort. Then, we had two vegetarian cooks to start with. Which is fine; there are vegetarian meals I enjoy, and I respect anyone’s right to chose that path. Cornelia Guest {Who I have honestly never heard of before this} was playing for the Humane Society of New York. Again, great charity. Carnie Wilson is playing for the Autism Research Institute… as I have friends with Autistic children, that rates with me. Chili and Hines Ward are playing for their own charities, both designed to make a positive difference in the lives of children/teens. Dean McDermott is playing for Miracle Babies: something close to his heart, and the hearts of anyone who cares about infants with a strike or two against them at birth or before. Johnny Weir, flamboyant and fun, is understandably playing for Human Rights Campaign. Good goals, all of them

Then we have the second Vegetarian, actress Kathy Najimy. Like I said, Vegetarian or Vegan, her choice, fine by me. Her charity: PETA. Yeah, that is right. The “People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals” who have, over the years, found it “ethical” to used guerilla tactics to release lab animals or farm bred and raised animals into the wild without stopping to consider A}if they are in their native environment, B} how it will affect the local environment, and C}the results if these animals tangle with humans. PETA, who kills 84% of the ADOPTABLE companion animals it gets its money-grubbing hands on { http://www.petakillsanimals.com/ } PETA, who is trying to shove its veiws down everyone else’s throats. This planet has enough problems supporting the mixed food chain it has. Trying to force everyone into a Vegan lifestyle is NOT any good for the Mother Earth. It isn’t how the human body has evolved. PETA would also love to see the end of animals as pets, companions, coworkers and Life Assistance… no more police dogs or horses, no more seeing eye dogs, or therapy dogs… no more cats or dogs or gerbils to cuddle at home after a rough day at work.

Ms Najimy may be a great cook, but I really wish she’d gotten the boot last night instead of Cornelia Guest. And I sincerely hope she gets booted SOON… before PETA gets any more money they don’t deserve from the sponsors of the Rachel vrs Guy Celebrity Cook Off.
