Twenty Little Angels

And already, the anti-gun rhetoric begins, fueled by today’s tragedy in Connecticut. My heart bleeds for the families and friends of the twenty little angels, and their six adult angels, who lost their lives because of one man. There are still questions to be answered. But the GUNS were only tools. On April 19,1995, Timothy McVeigh murdered 19 children all under the age of 6, and he never fired a gun. He detonated a bomb made from things you can buy around town.

Twenty Little Angels (Sandy Hook Elementary, 14 December 2012)

There are candles burning brightly
All across the land
And prayers being whispered; shouted
As we try to understand

As we hold our children tighter
With no answer to their “Why?
It’s eleven days to Christmas
Why did twenty children die?”

The answers may be slow to come,
And maybe, some never will
What drives a human being
To the point he has to kill?

Twenty little angels, guarded
by six more
Are gone winging to heaven
To knock on that bright door

And within those golden gates
Other angels will draw near
To help erase those final thoughts
Of pain, bewilderment and fear
